Happy Valentine's Day

"The heart is the symbol for love and the very core of our being and the basis of emotional life."

Happy Valentine’s Day. The heart is the symbol for love; it is the very core of our being and the basis of emotional life.  We use phrases such as   ‘Speak from your heart’, ‘Heart and Soul’, ‘Sweetheart’, ‘Take Heart’ and ‘The heart of the matter’.  The heart is associated with a human’s character, compassion, affection, spirit and disposition.  It is the central part of us and the essence of being human.  We can lose heart, set our heart on something, have a man or woman after your own heart, have our heart in the right place, and wear our heart on our sleeve.

What a great time to stop and think about our heart health!  Our heart is an amazing organ.  In a healthy adult, your heart will beat about 60 times every minute, more that 86,00 times each day, and over 2 billion times in an average lifetime.  Your heart will pump 3 ounces of blood with each beat.  That amounts to 5.5 quarts every minute and over 2,000 gallons daily.( source -: Mayo Clinic Heart Book, 2nd Edition)  WOW!

Valentine’s Day is a day for remembering.  My seven year anniversary of my emergency bypass surgery is fast approaching.  I am so grateful to be here to celebrate another Valentine’s Day with my family and friends. There is a reason I did not become another cardiac death statistic and I thank God for my second chance at life. I will spend today reflecting on all of my blessings and praying for those whom I love with all my heart! And a card and a nice dinner from the hubby would be really nice, too!

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day?
