While drafting my “Listen to your heart” haiku posting, I decided to do a search on the phrase “Listen to your heart.”

Maybe you can guess what I found: Songs about romantic love, a recent article about heart health, a biology class project to help students become familiar with their own heartbeat (give it a try!) and a posting about TV ads that mention the heart.

The health article reminds us to pay attention to how we’re feeling:

“What should women do to figure out where they stand and to protect themselves? Most urgently, pay attention to any troubling symptoms and see a doctor.”

So do the romantic songs by Roxette and the Stylistics, but they focus on our feelings about someone else. Here’s what the Stylistics sang:

Stop, look
Listen to your heart, hear what it's saying
Stop, look
Listen to your heart, hear what it's saying
Love, love, love

As a Valentine to yourself this year, why not deepen your relationship with your own heart?

Love your heart, love yourself!
