Heart of Nutrition - Getting Started

There is no way to deny that how we eat and our lifestyle choices are either leading detractors from health or leading contributors to health, especially heart health. So we have to start feeding our bodies quality foods that enhance our health and well-being. But what foods?

First, I would like to say I am so excited to be able to reach out and share information with women from all over the world and really be able to discuss the confusing and conflicting information around eating, nutrition and food.

For millions of people food and diet are problematic.  Instead of being a source of nourishment, food has become a source of conflict and confusion. We have endless weight-loss dramas, body image issues, and a never ending search for the “best” nutritional diet or the latest science report to follow. Even if these problems are not yours, you are probably overwhelmed by the number of books, articles and experts touting the next best way to eat.

There is no way to deny that how we eat and our lifestyle choices are either leading detractors from health or leading contributors to health, especially heart health.  So we have to start feeding our bodies quality foods that enhance our health and well-being.

But what foods?

So on this blog we could talk about all of the food choices we have and what might be the best choice for us.  We could talk about the challenges of cooking and food preparation while having a busy life.  We could also talk about the myths and truths about foods. We'll share tips and stories, ask some thought-provoking questions, provide some education, and maybe offer recipes and other tips for healthy eating.

Here is a little about me.  My name is Betty, and I'm a 38 year-old nutritionist and health counselor and owner of a busy wellness center in Dallas.  I am wife, daughter, sister, friend and mommy to my two dogs and two cats.  I have a loving and supportive husband who is a fireman and writer. I love to cook as long as it takes less than 30 minutes to get dinner on the table.  I am an exercise enthusiast and yoga teacher (though I do not teach that much any more).

I believe people have an innate intelligence around food and nourishment and that it is my job to facilitate their journey to accessing that intelligence cutting through all of the jargon.  I believe we all have responsibility in taking care of our health and well-being and nutrition is the foundation.  I believe that I always have something new to learn and some of my best teachers have been my clients.

So, my question now to you is - What is your biggest challenge around food and eating?
